Forest Green Rovers F.C. will soon be the first football club to play in a home stadium made entirely of wood. The club, based out of Nailsworth, England, has spent the past seven months evaluating proposals for a new stadium and have selected a unique design from Zaha Hadid Architects. The UK-based architecture firm will add this project to a list of other recent endeavors including work conducted on the Olympic Park in London as well as a stadium for the 2022 World Cup.
The most remarkable feature about this 5000-seat stadium may well be the fact that it will be built from eco-friendly materials and powered entirely by sustainable energy sources. Said to be the greenest stadium in the world, the firm’s creation is an inventive way of blending eco-sustainability and The Beautiful Game.
