Nike and Atletico Madrid have released the new home kit for next season with a little help from club manager Diego Simeone. The shirt pays tribute to Atletico’s 1995/1996 season in which the club–featuring Simeone himself patrolling the midfield—won both the league and cup double.
The new shirt features five red stripes on a white backdrop, with each stripe bordered by a red pinstripe on either side, recreating the aesthetic of the kit 20 years prior. A slight v-neck is encircled by a blue stripe with the anniversary dates “1995-96” and “2015-16” printed on the inside of the inner neck. The major visual change, aside from the new kit sponsor (RIP Azerbaijan ‘Land of Fire’,) is the back of the shirt, which for the first time in club history is entirely red.
The kit will be available for purchase from the club shop starting June 25th.
