Recently Eight by Eight had the pleasure of traveling to Marseille with PUMA to take in the biggest derby in French football – Le Classique. Like most major derbies, the historical significance of the rivalry extends beyond the pitch. Le Classique is often seen as a battle of the North (Paris) vs the South (Marseille). The modern version of the rivalry is largely driven by the recent success of PSG and fueled by a resentment of many in France to the capital city of Paris.
The energy and emotion of the match was on full display as fans took to the streets outside the Orange Velodrome to show their support for the home side. The impressive display by the Marseille fans was ultimately not enough to will their side to victory as second half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Julian Draxler helped PSG to a 2-0 victory.
